What is RSVP reading?

RSVP means Rapid Serial Visual Presentation: words appear one after another at a fixed place on the screen so your eyes stop hunting along a line. It is the core of many online flash readers, including Flash mode in BriskRead’s RSVP reader.

How RSVP works

  1. Text is split into words (or short phrases)
  2. Each unit is shown for a duration based on your WPM
  3. A focal letter (often the Optimal Recognition Point) is emphasized
  4. Punctuation can add a brief pause so meaning can land

Why people use it

  • Less horizontal eye movement (saccades)
  • Harder to re-read the same line by habit
  • Clearer sense of pace than free scrolling

Limits of RSVP

RSVP is not magic. On unfamiliar, formula-heavy, or legal text, forced flash speed can destroy comprehension. That is why serious tools also offer Focus, Flow, Bionic, and Page modes.

RSVP + audio

Pairing RSVP with speech (Audio Sync) is dual-channel presentation: vision and hearing track the same token stream. See why that matters.
