Bionic Reading Online: Free Converter & Reader

Paste text below and it converts right away. Each word gets its opening letters bolded, giving your eye a clear anchor to land on. Copy the result into a doc, or read it in BriskRead's bionic mode. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

Converted text

Reading a long article is mostly a problem of attention, not of eyesight. Bolding the opening letters of each word gives your eye a fixed place to land, so it stops drifting back over text it has already covered.

How to read in bionic mode on BriskRead

  1. Open the BriskRead speed reader and paste text, upload a PDF/EPUB/TXT, or extract a URL.
  2. Start reading, then switch to Bionic Mode in the reader toolbar.
  3. Optional: turn on Audio Sync for dual-channel focus, or use RSVP mode for single-word flashing.
  4. Adjust theme (light, sepia, dark, AMOLED) and font size for long sessions.

Does bionic reading work?

Bionic-style formatting bolds the first part of each word: short words get one bolded letter, longer words get more. The idea is that your brain completes the word from the bolded prefix. Studies have not shown a reliable speed gain, but many readers find the page easier to keep their place on, which matters more for a long backlog than raw WPM. Treat it as a comfort option and test it on your own reading with our reading speed test.

When bionic reading helps

  • Long articles: scan research blogs and news without losing the thread.
  • Study notes: review dense paragraphs you will re-read.
  • Accessibility preference: some readers prefer bold anchors over pure RSVP flashes.
  • Mixed sessions: switch between bionic page view and RSVP without re-uploading.

Fixation strength

  • Light: roughly a third of each word. Least visually noisy, good for long sessions.
  • Medium: about half. The default, and closest to what most bionic tools produce.
  • Heavy: around two thirds. Strongest anchor, though the contrast between bold and plain drops.

Convert, or just read?

Convert when the text is going somewhere else: a document you'll print, a passage you're studying, notes you want to re-read. If you just want to get through the text now, open it in the reader, where Bionic is one of six reading modes and you can pair it with pacing.

Bionic reading vs RSVP

Bionic reading keeps a full paragraph layout and bolds word prefixes. RSVP flashes one word at a fixed point with an Optimal Recognition Point (ORP) highlight. BriskRead includes both, plus Focus, Flow and Page modes and synced text-to-speech, all processed in your browser.

Privacy

The converter is plain JavaScript running on this page. Your text never leaves the browser, there is no upload, and closing the tab discards it. See the privacy policy.

Bionic reading FAQ

What is bionic reading?

Bionic reading is a text formatting style that bolds the opening letters of every word. Those bold prefixes act as visual anchors so your eyes can move across a paragraph with less effort.

Does bionic reading actually make you read faster?

Controlled studies have not found a consistent speed boost across all readers. However, many people report less line-skipping and eye fatigue on long articles. Test it on your own reading to see if it helps your focus.

Can I copy the bolded text into Word, Google Docs, or Notion?

Yes. Clicking Copy result puts rich HTML on your clipboard so the bold word prefixes survive when you paste into Google Docs, Microsoft Word, Notion, or an email.

Is my text uploaded when I use this converter?

No. Both the converter on this page and Bionic Mode inside the BriskRead speed reader run in plain JavaScript inside your browser. Your text never leaves your device.
