Read faster without re-reading

See it. Hear it. Finish it.

BriskRead plays your document one word at a time, right where your eyes already are — no scanning back and forth. That's RSVP, and BriskRead reads it aloud in sync as it flashes.

  • Step 1Drop in a PDF, EPUB, link, or pasted text — parsed in your browser.
  • Step 2Pick a pace. Words flash while the voice reads the same word.
  • Step 3Dense passage? Switch to Focus, Bionic, or full page mid-document.

Extracts text client-side using On-Device OCR
Best reliability: paste or Chrome extension.

Public URL extract is best-effort. Many news sites, Medium, LinkedIn, and paywalled pages block automated fetchers or only load text with JavaScript. If extract fails or looks empty, copy the article text and use Paste, or install the Chrome extension to read the tab in place.

Works on simple public HTML articles. Not a full browser — no login cookies, no SPA-only sites.

      1. Open Google AI Studio and sign in.
      2. Select Create API key and choose or create a Google Cloud project.
      3. Copy the key, paste it above, and select Save Key.
      4. Keep it private. BriskRead stores it only in this browser.

Speed is a dial. Context is a choice.

Use fast flash reading to clear a queue, then move toward full-page context when the material deserves more attention.

      Where BriskRead earns its place

Saved articles, newsletters, meeting notes, industry reports, long email threads and a first pass through research.

      When to slow down

Free Online Speed Reader — Flash RSVP & Bionic Reading Web App

BriskRead is a free online speed reader for eBooks, web articles, PDFs, and textbooks at up to 1000+ words per minute (WPM). Choose one-word Flash, three-word Phrase, line-isolated Focus, fixed-anchor Flow, Bionic, or clean Page reading. Add synchronized text-to-speech when audio helps you retain context — without installing an app or creating an account.

How to use this online speed reader

      1. Load text — paste an article, upload PDF/EPUB/TXT, run image OCR, extract a public URL, or use the Chrome extension.
      2. Start reading — RSVP mode flashes one word at a time with Optimal Recognition Point (ORP) alignment.
      3. Tune speed — set WPM from 100–1000, press Space to play/pause, and use arrow keys to jump.
      4. Optional audio — enable Audio Sync for dual-channel TTS, or switch to Bionic / Standard page view.
      5. Themes — light, sepia, dark, or AMOLED; press D to cycle.

      Rapid Serial Visual Presentation (RSVP)

Traditional reading forces horizontal eye movement and micro-pauses (saccades). RSVP mode flashes single words at a fixed focal point. BriskRead calculates the Optimal Recognition Point of each word — the focal letter is highlighted — so your brain processes language without hunting along a line. Punctuation gets slightly longer delays so comprehension stays intact at high WPM.

      Bionic Reading Mode

For longer sessions where you want a full page, bionic reading bolds the initial part of each word (fixations) while the rest stays lighter (saccades). Your eyes glide through paragraphs with lower load. Switch anytime between bionic reading, RSVP, and standard sentence mode without reloading the document.

Dual-Channel Audio Narration & PDF to speech

Layering TTS on visual flashes creates dual-channel focus: ears and eyes stay on the same stream. Use Chrome or Edge for neural/natural voices. Upload a PDF or EPUB and narrate client-side — see also our PDF to speech guide. Files are parsed in the browser; optional URL extraction calls our server and AI features call Google directly with your own key, as described in the privacy policy.

      Common use cases

      • Students — revise chapters and papers faster before exams or case comps.
      • Professionals — clear newsletters, research PDFs, and long emails under time pressure.
      • Language practice — pair visual RSVP with audio to reinforce pacing.
      • Accessibility preference — choose bionic bolding, dyslexia-friendly font option, or high-contrast AMOLED.
      • Web clipping — send any public article into the reader with the Chrome extension or Extract URL.

      Frequently Asked Questions

      What is RSVP Speed Reading?

RSVP stands for Rapid Serial Visual Presentation. It is a visual reading technology that flashes single words sequentially on a static point on the screen. This allows you to read without moving your eyes horizontally, eliminating eye muscle fatigue and significantly increasing reading speeds.

      How does Bionic Reading work?

Bionic Reading highlights the first few characters of each word in bold, creating an anchor point for your eyes. Your brain instantly identifies the word based on these letters and automatically completes the rest, speeding up sentence transition and scanning speeds.

Are my PDF and EPUB files kept private?

Yes. All parsing, document unzipping, Text-to-Speech conversions, and Image OCR happen entirely client-side inside your browser sandbox. None of your books, files, or pasted texts are uploaded to any external server.

How do I speed-read pages from Chrome?

Install the Chrome extension for in-page Flash/Focus, selection reading, and read-later. You can also paste a public URL into Extract URL on the homepage.

Is there an API key required for AI features?

Yes. AI summary and document chat use your own free Gemini API key, stored only in your browser and sent straight to Google — never to our servers. Google's free tier covers normal use.

      How does multi-device sync work?

Create a free account and sign in on each device. Your library, queue, and reading totals sync automatically. Without an account everything still works — it just stays on that device.

      Is BriskRead really free?

Yes. Every feature is free: unlimited document length, the full library, all reading modes, TTS audio sync, OCR, and in-page reading in the Chrome extension. The site is supported by display ads.
